THE TRUE TRADITION OF CHURCH
In the Catholic Church the dogma of faith expresses a truth believed by everyone, always and everywhere present, therefore, as valid parameters for the recognition of antiquity and universal consensus.
The dogmatic truth is the work of Divine Revelation and is promulgated, through a specific process, by the Supreme Pontiff, "The definition of the dogma, the universal faith of the people of God, definitely excludes all doubt and requires the express assent of all Christians" (see General Audience of Pope John Paul II July 2, 1997 nn. 2-3).
From this point of view, the dogmatic truths, unlike other acts of the Magisterium, have the peculiarity of not being Reforma. In chronological order the latest documents dogmatic, which is due the deference and the obedience of faith, it is the Dogmatic Constitutions of Vatican II. Among these is the
Dei Verbum: promulgated by Pope Paul VI November 18, 1965, it dealt specifically with the Divine Revelation, which, under the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church, took shape from the one deposit made by the Sacred Scripture and Tradition. The DV to no
8b so characterizes the tradition: "This tradition comes from the apostles makes progress in the Church with the help of the Holy Spirit, growing in the understanding of the realities and words that have been handed down through the contemplation and study of believers who ponder these things in her heart them (cf. Lk 2:19, 51), both with the intelligence provided by a deeper experience of spiritual things, and through the preaching of those who have received through episcopal succession the sure gift of truth. Thus the Church in the centuries towards the plenitude of divine truth, until it come to fruition in the Words of God. " In the Constitution
Reconciling the presence of those three "is" (Latin version tum) defines the authentic way to decline in the Church Tradition: Tradition grows only if the believers to study the word, if there is apprehension of spiritual things and if there is Bishops preaching. When you amputate one of three "is", or are disjointed with each other, it misrepresents the tradition and then turn onto the wrong path, generally referred to as "traditionalism."
There is a notation on the important Vatican Council II, at least for younger generations must be highlighted: the dynamics of faith that inspired the Second Vatican Council were not those of the gap, but the continuity with the true tradition of the Catholic Church, as recently pointed out the same Benedict XVI in his address to the members Prelature of the Roman Curia and the Christmas greetings December 22, 2005.
And indeed, if you are in town to review what were the preconciliar ecclesial movements which led to the Dogmatic Constitutions of Vatican II, you will realize that the council, was far from being a pure renewal movement, was mainly a motion of discovery of the most genuine and deep Christian roots, in this inspired by the action of the Spirit and sealed by the dogmatic pronouncements of Paul VI.
For all the above reasons, the actual story of the followers of Archbishop Lefebvre continues to cause serious harm to the Church and pax to offend the dignity of the "Petrine Ministry".
To date, Lefebvre, rather than claiming their own tradition, which, as we have said, they never could have not only for disciplinary reasons (John Paul II with the motu proprio Ecclesia Dei of 2 July 1988, he excommunicated the Lefebvre), but also for reasons of lack of understanding of history and faith of the events of the Council, but would need a conversion process, that, although repeatedly requested by Pope Benedict XVI, despite his father's forgiveness does not seem to be free yet been undertaken.
